Himalaya - "Abode of Snow"

"A hundred divine epochs would not suffice
to describe all the marvels of the Himalayas."

Nepal is blessed with some of the most spectacular trekking country on earth with eight of the worlds fourteen 8000 m peaks within its borders. Located between the giants China to the north and India to the south this country is home to more than 20 million people of around 50 ethnic groups. Nepal is approximately 800 by 200 km and is about four times the size of Switzerland. The main attraction for tourists coming to Nepal is the mountains. The scenery ranges from subtropical jungle to glaciated peaks higher than 8000 m and the people you meet on a trek usually make up several diverse and colorful ethnic groups. Nepal has a lot more to offer visitors than trekking and mountaineering. Kathmandu with its thousands of temples, the colorful bazaars and chaotic street life is worth a visit in itself. After a trek you can visit the hardwood forests of Chitwan National Park which is a reserve for the Asian one-horned rhino and the Bengal tiger. In addition the park has incredible bird-life, four different species of deer and lots of monkeys.
North of Nepal, across the Himalaya we find Tibet which is about the size of western Europe. Tibet is one of the most fascinating places on earth and offers experiences that will excite even the most experienced traveller.

EcoExpeditions can offer any trekking itinerary available in Nepal. In addition we have climbing trips to Mera Peak, Island Peak, Ramdung and Yala Peak in our program. As an addition to a trekking or climbing trip we recommend a jungle safari in Chitwan National Park.
We also offer a ten day Nepal/Tibet package with a four day stay in Lhasa.

"To travel in the remote areas of Nepal today offers much more than superb mountain scenery. It provides an opportunity to step back in time and meet people who, like our ancestors many centuries ago, lived free of complications, social, economic and political, which beset the developed countries. To the Nepalese peasant, his life revolves around his homestead, his fields and, above all, his family and neighbors in the little village perched high on a Himalayan mountainside. Here we can see the meaning of community, free of the drive of competition. We see human happiness despite - or because of - the absence of amenities furnished by our modern civilization.

Change will come to the Nepalese way of life, but it behooves travelers from the modernized countries to understand and respect the values and virtues of life today in rural Nepal. They have much to teach us about how to live."

John Hunt

John Hunt was the leader of the 1953 Everest expedition where Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary scaled the peak for the first time.
