Trekking

What is Trekking?

Trekking is what we would call backpacking in Europe or USA. All treks in our program have "full support" with guide, cooks and porters. You are free to walk each stage of the trek at your own pace and you only carry a small day-pack with your camera, water-bottle and maybe some extra clothing. All meals are prepared for you and even your tent will be pitched and ready by the time you arrive camp in the afternoon.

Tea-house Trek

For many of our treks  you can choose to stay in tea-houses. A tea-house is a local guest house but the standard vary enormously. In popular trekking areas, such as Annapurna and the Everest Region, the tea-houses are like simple hotels. You will have access to private rooms, hot water and Western style food. In more remote areas the tea-houses are far simpler and more authentically Nepali. Tea-house trekking is less expensive than camping and is suitable for small groups.

Camping Trek

Camping is the most practical if you travel with a large group even in the areas where there are tea-houses. A team of guides, porters and cooks will ensure you trek in comfort and provides international-style food of a high standard.

A Day on a Camping Trek

At 6 o'clock you are usually served a cup of tea while you are still in your sleeping-bag. Tea is followed by some warm water for washing and after packing your backpack, you are served breakfast consisting of tea, coffee, porridge, cereal and eggs or pancakes. During breakfast the porters take down the tents and prepare loads. The entire party is usually on the way by 7:30.

Around 11  you will have lunch at a suitable spot. The kitchen crew will already be preparing lunch when you arrive and you will be eating and relaxing for one to two hours. In the afternoon you trek for another 2-3 hours and you will usually find the camp in place when you arrive for tea or coffee. The rest of the afternoon is usually used to wash up, read or explore the surroundings.

Dinner is ready by 18 and usually consists of soup, main course and dessert. You will be provided western food which is varied and tasty. After dinner there is time to read and socialize but most people are asleep by 21:00 hrs..
